    The scratch reflex arc is a neurological response unique to animals, including dogs. When you scratch or touch certain spots on your dog’s body—often their belly or sides—it triggers specific nerves. These nerves send signals to the spinal cord, which interprets them as an itch. In turn, the body reacts by making the dog scratch with their hind leg as if trying to relieve the sensation.This reflex is completely involuntary & is a sign of a healthy nervous method. However, excessive triggering of the reflex might indicate skin irritation or underlying health concerns.
  2. Sensory Sensitivity
    Dogs have highly sensitive skin equipped with nerve endings that detect touch, pressure, and temperature. When you scratch them, it can stimulate these nerve endings, creating a sensation that mimics an itch. Their natural response is to scratch the area to simple the sensation further.
